Accessibility of Yahoo! Mail?

So instead of using Blackboard, one of my favorite profs has always used Yahoo! Groups. Only problem? It worked great for me last year, but not so much this year. I've tried any combination of Window-Eyes, NVDA, IE, and Firefox. All my plugins are up-to-date, but I find the browser crashes a lot and I feel like I'm missing a lot of information on the page. Is there a work-around for any of this or shall I declare this impossible?

In the Yahoo Mail there is a way to make the settings back to regular. I can't think of what its called, but otherwise if you don't set it that way its just difficult.
A trick could be forwarding your email to another account, like Hotmail, or pay the $19 for the year and than you can get your mail in Outlook or another mail client.

Have you tried the mobile yahoo site, m.yahoo.com? I'm not sure how that works in groups, but if you're just checking your mail it should work fine.

I would highly recommend gMail for your main email. It is more accessible than any other webmail I've tried such as yahoo, AOL, etc. and, I haven't had any problems with accessibility so far.

It would be nice if I had a choice of what to use. I do primarily use Gmail, but I have to be able to do the group for the class. I will try the mobile site for sure, though. It used to be that you could do forwarding or sign up for the group with another type of account, but not anymore. I will see about finding the setting to switch back to simpler viewing, but I remember for a time that every time I logged in I had to reset it again and that was annoying. Now I don't see it anywhere. I _aink Yahoo! is a menace to society lol. Thanks for your input.

Does Yahoo still charge people for POP server access? Or does it give people a way to view their mail using clients? I had a old Yahoo account I never check anymore but the wife doesn't want gmail and so am considering getting her a Yahoo.

There is definitely a way to set your settings to make the frames go away. Just take the time, fool around with your yahoo settings for a while. I've been using Yahoo! for many years and have had no problems with it that were from their particular area when it comes to accessibility.

Yes with that setting it works fine, but as I've said without it is difficult.
When you go to the main mail page tab through that tool bar to find settings and it is there. You can always call them and have them explain as well or use the help section.

I've searched for such a module as Settings/Options and haven't found one that quite touches upon accessibility--just presentation of the page, and no matter what I change, it doesn't help much. Do you have any specific pointers? I swear I'm not super incompetent, it's just that these yahoos keep changing things on me as soon as I get used to things.

Hi,

I use the yahoo web interface just fine in Firefox with Jaws 12. I've also got yahoo to go to my copy of Thunderbird using pop3. There are instructions on I think it is lifehacker that tell you how to do so. They are for both the classic and new interfaces. Since they do differ a bit.

Doesn't using POP3 cost you with Yahoo!, though?

Yes, usually yahoo pop3 access is paid. But there's a work around. The screen shots will not help you out to change the settings, but there's enough nonvisual descriptions to do so. Here's the url, hope this helps out.
